An RC blimp is exactly that - a blimp that is remote controlled. What is a blimp, you ask? It's an 'airship' - meaning it's a 'lighter-than-air' powered vessel that often 'lifts' due to helium, but also has a motor, for control.
Many hobbyists have gained an interest in flying an RC blimp, and they come in sizes from 8' to 30'.
An RC blimp contains the following components:
RC Blimp Component #1: The Envelope or Hull -- these non-rigid components in a cigar shape are the hardest to build. They are what you put the helium in -- and are usually fragile and made of mylar foil.
RC Blimp Component #2: The Godola -- This contains the receiver and battery, as well as having the motor attached to the outside or back.
RC Blimp Component #3: The Power Plant -- We recommend an electric motor (not a combustion engine).
RC Blimp Component #4: The Rudders -- These allow you to steer, stabilize and control the RC Blimp. Light balsa or Styrofoam are good materials here.
RC Blimp Component #5: The Helium -- You can get this at any balloon shop, flower store or party store, and it only costs a few dollars for a fill up. A refill of your RC blimp should last 1 to 2 weeks.
RC Blimp Products:
The Mach III Radio Controlled Blimp has a 52" blimp, and the helium balloon is refillable. The transmitter provides a range of over 300 feet.
Another option is the Tri-Turbofan Airship, and RC blimp, can be flown indoors. It comes with 1x 52 Inch Blimp Balloon or 1x 38" UFO Saucer.
Just fill the Mylar Airship Baloon with helium, attach the Tri-Turbofan to the balloon, add batteries -- and you are ready to go in 3 minutes!
An RC blimp isn't just for publicity stunts anymore!
